Description
The name Monkey Shoulder comes from the shoulder pain suffered by our artisans in the days when malted barley was turned by hand. In memory of this expertise, we created Monkey Shoulder “triple” malt Scotch Whisky, a blend made from three of Speyside’s finest single malt distilleries.
Unlike traditional blends, Monkey Shoulder is made from 100% malt whiskies, giving it exceptional richness and smoothness.
The renowned critic Jim Murray, a fan of the whisky, awarded Monkey Shoulder a score of 93% in his 2006 edition of “Whisky Bible,” adding that our Malt Master David Stewart “clearly has malts in the palm of his hand.”
The maltmen, who once stirred the barley with a shovel, were constantly exposed to drafts that caused them severe rheumatism. This malting-related ailment was known as “monkey shoulder.” It is in homage to these maltmen that the Grant family, owners of the iconic Glenfiddich distillery, created this triple malt, crafted from a blend of three single malts (Glenfiddich, Balvenie, and Kininvie) with aromas of honey, cinnamon, and vanilla.
“Smooth and Rich, Monkey Shoulder, not the original whisky, more original than that!”
